Read two stories today that seem to overlap:
(1) A school requires parents to sign an agreement not to monitor their child’s online classroom sessions.
(2) A school calls police because a BB gun was seen in the background during a virtual class

(1) Officials at all county schools are asking parents to sign forms agreeing not to watch these virtual classes. “RCS strives to present these opportunities in a secure format that protects student privacy to the greatest extent possible, however because these meetings will occur virtually RCS is limited in its ability to fully control certain factors such as non-student observers that may be present in the home of a student participating in the virtual meeting,” according to the form...RCS strongly discourages non student observation of online meetings due to the potential of confidential information about a student being revealed.”
The form asks parents for their signature and warns that “violation of this agreement may result in RCS removing my child from the virtual meeting.”

(2) "...police were called to their house over something that happened during a virtual school lesson. The incident is raising concerns over privacy and safety in the era of online learning. As a Navy veteran with four years of active duty, Courtney Lancaster has extensive knowledge of guns, how to use them and how to store them. Her 11-year-old son, who owns BB guns, is a boy scout in fifth grade...In his pursuit of becoming an Eagle Scout...learned how to shoot a BB gun and an airsoft gun. He’s also taken three levels of archery lessons. His mother says he stores his bow and guns on this wall in his bedroom...According to emails Courtney later exchanged with a school administrator, a screenshot was taken during the online class. The principal...was notified...the school safety officer then called police...Courtney says the police officers were in her home for about 20 minutes and found no violations. No laws were broken and no dangers present. They left without any further action...she has written school administrators, the superintendent and the school board, demanding answers. She says the principal initially compared bringing a weapon to a virtual class to bringing a gun to school. She was also told she could not see the screenshot of her son’s bedroom, because it’s not part of his student record."

Facebook allows kittens, but not info on their competitors. I can share other posts from my blog, but not this one, even after using their "linter" to fix the problem.
(I added the word kittens to my facebook post on purpose. and the filename of the attached image has the word kitten in it.)
kitten. kittens. #kittensoffacebook
